Breeding & Reproductive Services Beyond Compare

French bulldog puppies in Meridian ID.

Dr. Beede and Dr. Bingham at Intermountain Pet Hospital are skilled at providing small animal reproduction and fertility services. We also are pleased to be one of only 40 Synbiotic semen-freezing centers in the world. Synbiotic semen centers collect, process, and preserve canine semen, and then ship the frozen semen to the Synbiotic storage facility in Kansas City, Kansas. Our experienced semen technician works with Drs. Beede and Bingham to ensure that your pet’s genetic heritage is available long after the life of that beloved pet.

The following reproduction and fertility services are available at Intermountain Pet Hospital:

  • Semen evaluation—A full semen evaluation determines the quality and quantity of your pet’s semen.
  • Canine semen freezing—Our 6-hour semen freezing process is performed once a month. Correctly frozen and properly stored semen can generally last for decades and is the best means to preserve your pet’s DNA.
  • Ovulation timing, progesterone, and LH testing—With only a 3-day window of fertility, accurately determining when your pet is ovulating is critical if breeding is to be successful.
  • Fresh chilled semen—Shipping your dog across the nation for breeding purposes is timely, expensive, and stressful for your dog. We eliminate the need for such drastic measures by collecting, chilling, and shipping your dog’s semen. In addition, we can receive chilled semen from other dogs around the nation and store it properly for your convenience.
  • Artificial insemination—We offer four different methods for artificial insemination:
    • Tradition vaginal insemination
    • Vaginal insemination using a MAVIC catheter
    • Transcervical insemination (TCI) using a scope through the cervix
    • Surgical insemination in the uterus
  • Ultrasound pregnancy diagnosis—Ultrasound is the safest, most effective and accurate method to determine pregnancy as early as 24–28 days post breeding.
  • High-risk pregnancy management—When breeding is problematic, we offer a package that includes weekly ultrasound exams of the fetuses and the uterus and weekly progesterone testing, as well as radiographs during the final week of pregnancy. This level of monitoring can be critical in determining issues proactively and giving us the opportunity to possibly prevent some fetal losses.
  • Caesarian section—Some females have difficulty giving birth in the traditional manner, and a caesarian section is the best option to keep both the mother and babies healthy. Our staff is fully trained in the most current techniques for anesthesia and surgical removal of the puppies or kittens, as well as resuscitation of the newborns.
  • Complete lab testing
  • DNA swabs for AKC testing
  • Infertility problem solving—Some females have difficulty getting pregnant or some males have low fertility. With a thorough exam, including blood testing and other diagnostic techniques, we can determine the cause. In those cases, we are sometimes able to improve pregnancy rates by instilling simple changes in care and breeding protocol.

At Intermountain Pet Hospital, we will use all our expertise and the latest techniques to ensure that your pet’s breeding experience is the most successful it can be.
